I read a great article called the “12 Tasks Killer Employees do before Noon” posted on USNEWS.COM and shortened it up, finding the most important points to make this article “10 Traits of Crazy Productive People“.


A study was published in an American Psychological Association journal that surveyed more than 700 respondents from ages 17 to 79. The people that were up earlier reported being more happy than night owls. They also stated that society caters to a morning person’s schedule. It totally makes sense, right?

So here’s the list…

1) Making To-Do Lists at Night:“the opportune time to plan a day’s tasks is the night before… it also will help you sleep better”

2) Getting a Full Nights Rest: Lack of sleep affects concentration and productivity. Most health experts say to get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep. I am sure most of us know this, but it is hard to practice this. Just a good reminder (as opposed to my 7 hours of restless sleep)

3) Not Hitting the SNOOZE: I know this is hard, but hitting the snooze means losing valuable prep time, and you are far more likely to be late. “Anyone can make morning their most productive time. It could be that for an entire week, you set your alarm clock a little bit earlier, and you get out of bed on the first alarm. It may be a pain at first, but eventually you’ll get to the point where you’re getting your seven to eight hours of sleep at night, you’re waking up with all your energy, and accomplishing the things around the house you need to before going to the office”

4) Exercising: Exercise improves mood and energy levels, “there have been studies done on employees who’ve exercised before work or during the work day. Those employees have been found to have better time-management skills, and an improved mental sharpness”.

5)Practicing a Morning Ritual: Creating a morning routine is very important, having that quiet time to yourself to meditate, surf the web, read, etc.

6) Eating Breakfast: We all know and have heard many times that eating breakfast is good for you, although many people skip it.

7) Arriving On Time: This is one that I struggle with. And that takes us back to #3, not hitting the snooze button. I am definitely going to work on this.

8) Tackling Big Projects First: If following rule #1, you already have your to-do list ready from the night before, and the morning, being the mental peak for the day, is the best time to tackle the biggest projects you have first. Avoid meaningless projects and go for the hardest tasks first.

9) Avoiding Morning Meetings: Schedule your meeting times in the afternoon, that way, when you are at your peak performance at the beginning of the day, you are using your time to benefit the most. BUT, if your meeting IS the most important task of the day, then there are exceptions to the rule.

10) Scheduling Time for Follow Up Messages: Instead of checking your emails frequently to follow up with clients and leads, schedule a time during the day where you are focused solely on important follow ups. This way you are not wasting valuable time checking and re-checking emails every minute.
